How does it work?
Anyone who has children at one of the Participating
Schools can join the Bromley School Run scheme for free.
All you have to do Register your details on-line
and follow the simple instructions!
All parents registering with the scheme will be asked to complete a Criminal
Records Bureau Disclosure Form, which is available from your School Secretary.
The completed form will then be sent to the CRB to be checked, and once
you've been approved you'll be sent a password via e-mail, giving you
access to the Bromley School Run scheme.
As soon as you've got access to the scheme you can register your journey
requirements and the system will automatically find other local parents
with children at the same school/s as you. You can then make contact with
any parent you choose, through a secure e-mail, and arrange to meet them
to discuss the school run.
The scheme has been designed to be as safe and secure as possible. If
you would like to know more about safety and security, please Click

How safe is the Bromley School Run scheme?
The safety of children and parents is key to the scheme, and is a central
concern of the London Borough of Bromley, Transport for London and Liftshare.
Below are just some of the safety measures we've taken to protect both
you and your children:
- Only parents with children at the participating schools are allowed
to join the scheme
- Parents are only allowed to join the scheme once they've been approved
through the Criminal Records Bureau
- All data is held on a secure database
- Your surname, e-mail address, phone number, home address and car
registration number are kept secure at all times
- We require no information about your children, other than the schools
they attend
For further information about safety and security, please go to the Safety
and Security page.

What is a Criminal Records Bureau check?
The CRB - an executive agency of the Home Office - is set up to help
organisations make safer recruitment decisions. By providing wider access
to criminal record information, the CRB helps the public, private and
voluntary sectors identify candidates who may be unsuitable for certain
work, especially that involving contact with children or other vulnerable
members of society.
The CRB helps to protect the public through a new service called Disclosure
which provides a regulated 'one stop' service for England and Wales offering
access to records held by the police, together with those held by the
Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Education and Skills
(DfES).
For further information about the Criminal Records Bureau and the Disclosure
process please go to www.crb.gov.uk or
call their call centre on 0870 90 90 844.

What are the benefits of the Bromley School Run scheme?
Traffic in London has reached ridiculous levels. Congestion is now so
bad that the average speed of traffic in London has been reduced to 10
mph, and more than 90% of London air pollution is caused by road traffic.
Parents driving their children to school make up a significant proportion
of this traffic, and current estimates suggest that up to 18% of peak
time traffic is made up of parents and children on their way to school.
The Bromley School Run scheme has been designed to reduce the level of
traffice associated with the school run. In addition the scheme will bring
about direct benefits for you, your children, your school AND the wider
community in Bromley:
Benefits for you:
- Reduce the amount of time spent taking the children to and from school
- Avoid the early morning traffic
- Reduce the cost of taking the children to school
- Meet other parents living locally with children at the same school
Benefits for your children:
- Meet other children living locally who attend the same school
- Discover how easy it is to be socially and environmentally responsible
Benefits for the school:
- Reduced congestion around the school
- Reduced pollution around the school
- Reduced parking problems in and around the school
- Improved relations with the local community
- Improved community spirit
Benefits for Bromley:
- Reduced congestion
- Reduced pollution

What are the financial benefits of sharing journeys?
Where possible we suggest that parents arrange to take it in turns to
do the school-run, thereby sharing the costs of travel and the time associated
with getting children to school. However where this is not possible we
recommend that non-driving parents offer the driving parent 10p per mile
for each passenger child.
Therefore as a driver:
- Giving one child a lift will halve your fuel costs
- Giving two children a lift will cover your fuel costs
whilst as a non-driving parent you can get your child to school for less
than 50p each day!

How can I get involved?
The Bromley School Run scheme is available completely FREE to any parents

the School Secretary
- Complete the form and return it to the School Secretary
The completed form will then be sent to the CRB to be checked (this
will take between 4 and 6 weeks), and once you've been approved you'll
be sent a password via e-mail, giving you access to the Bromley School
Run scheme.
As soon as you've got access to the scheme you can register your journey
requirements and the system will automatically find other local parents
with children at the same school/s as you. You can then make contact with

What are the chances of finding a perfect match to my requirements?
We can't guarantee that you'll find a perfect match to your requirements,
but it's likely that you'll find someone with whom to share at least part
of your school run.
Will my personal information be available to other members?
The only information that is available to other users is your 'usually
called' name, the street where you live and the name of the school that
your child or children attend/s.
What are the insurance implications of sharing the school run?
"Participating in the lift-share scheme will not invalidate
drivers' motor insurance", says Vic Rance of the Association
of British Insurers.
"Drivers in doubt should contact their insurers".
Sharing the school run should not increase your insurance costs, though
charging passengers more than their share of the running cost can invalidate
your cover.
How do I contact the other parents?
Having selected a suitable parent with who to share the school run you
should make contact through the secure e-mail system on the site. Your
e-mail will be sent to them, and will inform them of your e-mail so that
they can confirm any arrangements. We suggest that you agree a time and
place to meet, so that you can finalise the details face to face.

What happens if the school-run falls through?
The Bromley School Run scheme is only responsible for assisting you in
finding people with whom to share the school run, and we cannot be held
responsible for any journeys that don't work out as planned.
If for one reason or another the school run falls through, all affected
parents should be contacted as soon as possible. Where possible another
parent, who has been registered through the CRB and is part of the Bromley
School Run scheme, could drive the children to school.
If you are in any doubt as to whether or not a parent has been checked
through the Criminal Records Bureau, please contact Louise French at Louise.French@bromley.gov.uk.
What happens if, for some reason, I can't do the school run?
You should ring the other parents and explain that you can't do the school
run. Don't offer to send someone in your place unless they've been checked
through the CRB and are part of the school run scheme.
Can my partner do the school run on my behalf?
Not unless he or she is a member of the Bromley School Run scheme or
you have the prior consent of the other parents involved in the school
run.
If your partner or anyone else from your household would like to register
with the scheme they should fill in a seperate Registration
Form and get checked through the CRB.

How do I cancel my membership?
To cancel your membership, please contact Louise French at Louise.French@bromley.gov.uk.
